Advice for partially erupted & impacted wisdom tooth, swelling of gum’s & throat pain?
Finally doing something about a possibly impacted wisdom tooth that’s caused me problems for over 2 years now.
I’d like to know a few things if anyone can help, bear with the long description of my situation.
No actual pain in the tooth itself, just the gum surrounding the partially erupted tooth. The wisdom teeth in my upper jaw have came in flawlessly, no problems whatsoever … except for the havoc raining down from one.
Top left wisdom tooth is so jagged & sharp it’s constantly jabbing down on the lower left wisdom tooth & the surrounding gum’s, irritating my gums & causing them to swell. Usually the swelling & pain would go away with the proper care (a mix of saltwater gargles & using mouthwash, also I find a tea made from white sage leaves helps reduce inflammation some). Well it’s happened again, only this time worse. A larger area of gum-line is now effected, accompanied by a sore throat & slightly swollen lymph nodes under the jawline on the outer left side of my neck ( just under the swollen areas in my mouth ), no fever. Impossible for me to eat just about anything and very hard to open and close my mouth all the way or stick my tongue out. I can tell the lower left tooth is probably impacted, I see the molar just in front of it is raised significantly as if the wisdom tooth was slowly pulling the tooth in front of it outward, so needless to say I will be asking to have it extracted and may ask to have the top tooth shaved a little to help prevent anymore gum irritation.
Been dealing with the pain & swelling since Tuesday Oct 21 & finally got an appointment for Tuesday Oct 28, I hate to wait that long especially since it could be infected but I’ll take what I can get.
Now for the question part lol:
What, other than gargling with warm saltwater, are some good home treatments to help keep the swelling & pain at bay until I see the dentist?
Is an extraction my best method for solving this problem once & for all or are there alternatives?
I might get prescribed antibiotics since I’m pretty sure this is an infection, so what are the kinds of antibiotics prescribed for such conditions? What are the names of the typical antibiotics given for gum/mouth/throat/tooth infections?
I have some recent gastrointestinal problems resulting in weight loss & improper nutrient absorption & I take probiotics 2-3 times daily either in the form of yogurt, a probiotic cereal, and/or lactobacillus acidophilus supplements (13.3mg or 2 billion cultures) to help, I’m sure I’ll need to up the dosage when taking antibiotics.
When would be the proper time to take probiotics? A few hours before or after antibiotics? Should I take the antibiotics and probiotics with or without food? How long would I need to be on antibiotics before surgery? Is taking antibiotics recommended for someone like me who already has some GI problems?
I’ve had tinnitus in my left ear for over 10 years & a recently a bout with severe vertigo that left me incapacitated exhausted & starved for a week, I hear that the local anesthetic administered before oral surgery can actually cause tinnitus.
Does anyone know if this is true? Would this irritate my problem ear further?
After vertigo, I don’t want to risk using an anesthetic that would irritate my ear more & cause another bout of vertigo, although I am aware that this possible infection could surely do the same thing if it spreads.
Would I be prescribed any post-operative painkillers? If so, I’d like to know what kind of medication is usually prescribed after a wisdom tooth extraction?
Sorry again for the overly descriptive “questions” but I’ve been worried of this, any advice, tips, or personal experience is greatly appreciated!
Thank you, Namasté!

Ear Problem????????,,,?
any ideas??
the last week of so my ears are hurting me and they are blocked and every time i swallow my ears kinda crack i have pains in the kinda top of my ears i have tinnitus and it has got very loud and i have a sore throat alot the last month i have being to a ENT Doctor and he said my ears are perfect and clear but sore and blocked
I have sudden tinnitus at any early age. Any way of knowing when this might go away?
I’m 21 years old and recently have started getting a ringing in the ears. It started for maybe 15 minutes a few days ago. I’ve had a sore throat, some light congestion, and some headpain that certainly felt like a light sinus infection. My mother got the same infection but apparently to a much greater degree (ended up getting on an antibiotic).
So far its been a few days and my sore throat, congestion and head pain have been almost non existent. I’ve had the ringing for close to 3 days now. I went to an ENT today and he said my ears looked fine. He’s scheduled me in for a hearing exam in the next few days.
Even though my sinus issues were pretty mild, it seems like it’d be hard for there to be a coincidence as far as the tinnitus is concerned. I don’t listen to loud music often at all. I’ve never been to a concert, and I expect my hearing test to be largely successful.
Is it possible that the tinnitus is still just a lingering effect from the sinus cold I got? Any idea how much longer this could last?
If tinnitus starts with a cold, will will it go away when the cold ends?
I have had a cold for a week now that had ear pain, congestion, sore throat and sinus pressure. Today, I am finally at the tail end of it, but am worried about the ringing in my left ear. I’ve never had this before other than for a few seconds. Yesterday I woke up around 4 am and it was ringing. I got up at 10 and it was still ringing, but stopped after I was awake for a bit. It started up again last night and has been going non stop for the past 27 hours. My ear does still feel a little stuffy, but I’m really worried that it won’t go away. It took me an hour to fall asleep last night and made it impossible for me to nap today either of the times I tried. This is not something that I could easily live with. The cold medicine I took a few times has aspirin in it and I have taken some aspirin since the cold started, but not large amounts. So, I am not sure what has caused the ringing, but I was wondering if anyone knew if this kind of thing will normally clear up when the cold is completely gone, or if it’s possible to become permanent from this? Thanks!!
Woke up with pain in inner left ear and ringing sound?
I woke up today to find that my left ear has a rather large and uncomfortable pain inside; sometimes sharp and sometimes a duller throb. Also, from that same ear, I am experiencing a constant and annoying ringing and quite noticeable hearing loss.
Some extra information:
-I had been listening to rather loud music before I went to sleep, but it was not as loud as usual and I experienced no ringing immediately after stopping listening.
-I am beginning to enter the final stages of what has been a rather nasty cold.
-I have a bit of a nasty sore throat on the left side of my throat (same side as the ear that is having issues; potentially a connection????)
-Things such as hiccuping or yawning cause the pain to jump high momentarily.
Because of the ringing and hearing loss, I’m really worried that I’ve got tinnitus, and shall see a doctor if the symptoms don’t go away after a few days, but I would really like to know if it’s possible that I’ve simply got some infection or something rather than tinnitus or permanent damage, to put my mind at ease a bit. Or to stress me more if permanent damage is indeed the case. :p
Considering it’s just your gums that hurt I’m not sure if my advice is going to help but maybe it’s worth a shot? I came across this website while suffering through a monster toothache these past few days. What I found that works for me is a combo of Table salt, Black pepper, Cheyenne Pepper, Granulated garlic, and a dash of vanilla extract to form the mix into a paste. I also use a cold compress but every tooth is different so you will have to experiment for yourself. A slice of onion in my mouth also helps the pain a bit which also works to naturally fight infection according to my sources, oh and Garlic is the same as the onion. None of these taste good but when your mouth hurts you will do anything to get relief, mouth pain is the worst. Also with the Cheyenne pepper it’s pretty spicy but I think it helps to take my mind off the pain a bit. Good luck I know you are miserable right now, hope it gets better! Go check out this site that I used and find what works for you.
You should feel better when ALL the congestion is gone. That can take a while. There are all sorts of nooks and crannies for the gunk to hide inside your head.
Here are some tips that help me when I’m fighting a cold, respiratory infection, or flu…..
COOK YOURSELF UP SOME HEALY SAUCE:
Boil some salty water in a pot on the stove. Turn off the burner. Blow your nose and cough out some phlegm. Make a steam hood by draping a small-to-medium-sized towel over your head and the pot. Breathe the salty steam in your nose, out your mouth several times. Breathe some in your mouth and out your nose a few times as well. Blow your nose whenever you need to. Keep this up until the steam is gone because the water has cooled. You can do this trick a few times throughout the day until you feel better. Salt is very healing.
OVER THE COUNTER MEDS TO TRY:
take a sinus decongestant containing Phenylephrine 5mg. you don’t necessarily need all the extras it’s often mixed with.
but if you want some extras, here you go: Guaifenisen (Mucinex is the brand name, but it’s way cheaper at dollar stores. always read ingredients!!) liquefies your mucus so it’s much easier to expel. But you have to drink TONS of water or it won’t work, and you must be near a bathroom because it makes you pee a lot. (yet causes constipation… another reason to stay hydrated!)
Ibuprofen is an excellent anti-inflammatory, but it’s strong, so alternate it with Acetaminophen as needed for pain, pressure, and headaches.
ESSENTIALS FOR IMMUNITY BOOSTS:
stay home. (even one day can make a difference to your immune system. plus, you’ll keep your germs to yourself.)
)
sleep. (bolsters up your immune system)
drink plenty of water. (8 8oz servings a day=bare minimum!!) (pee out those germs and flush ‘em away!!)
take vitamin C, zinc, and echinacea. (also strengthen the immune system)
eat too much garlic. (sorry, but it really is great for your health! and it will give you a good reason to stay home.
wash hands well and often. use moisturizing lotion or hand sanitizer to keep from cracking your hands to bits.
avoid milk and chocolate. dairy foods will thicken your mucus and make your fight that much harder.
moderate exercise helps your immune system too!
the meds and garlic are harsh, so don’t take them on an empty stomach. i hope you allow yourself some time to feel better soon! take care.
also i just learned a new tip from John Popper of Blues Traveler: very hot water, cayenne pepper, white vinegar, and honey. SOUNDS GROSS!!! he gargles it and spits up all kinds of nasty crap. might be worth a shot, but don’t hurt your vocals! to be safe maybe just drink hot water with lemon and honey. that works too, and it’s much more pleasant.
COUGHING FITS:
you will benefit most from the mucinex and water. (generic is fine… but don’t take any DEXTROMETHORPHAN (cough suppressant) during the day. take it at night so you can stop coughing and get some rest. during the day, you need to drink a ton of water and break that crap up so it will leave you alone!
NOTE: I am not a doctor or nurse. Consult a medical professional to tailor any of the above suggestions to your particular circumstances, especially taking into consideration your weight, age, health, whether you’re pregnant or nursing. FEEL BETTER SOON!!
I’m not sure why your doctor would say your ears are clear but blocked? Or am I misunderstanding you?
Sounds to me like either a build up of wax – in which case you may need them syringing (not as bad as it sounds). Or an ear infection.
Try getting a second opinion!
thanks for uploading, loving it

Go for the tattoo! I LOVE Bob Marley and grew up listening to him. He's such an inspiration and that quote is one of his most famous and best.
"One good thing about music, when it hits you feel no pain." Yes, you're right. He means that the impact Music has on you as a person is incredible. It can ease your pain, help you get through the rough times, and help you look at better days ahead. One of his songs that always lightens me up is Three Little Birds.. such a beautiful song.
Good luck on the tat.
